In light of recent events, I felt compelled to talk about my own experiences. As Notre Dame’s first African American scholarship women’s tennis player, I will be the first to say that my journey has not been easy. However, I am proud of the way I have spoken up for myself and for others like me throughout the years. An important thing that I have learned is that no matter what people might say or do to discourage you, your accomplishments can never be taken away. In the midst of racialized experiences and when you’re put through a lot, you don’t always realize this. But it’s important to remember, always keep your head up, stay strong, and focus on what you set out to accomplish.
